Why not sort the versions by version number?

  • Affected Version
    WoltLab Suite 3.0

If you want to create a new repository but including old versions, the list appears filtered by date. I think this list should be sort by version number (the last version)...

Edit. Or can to edit the version date?

  • Yes, please. This would make it a whole lot easier and more comprehensible.

  • On the other hand you have examples such as our Plugin-Store, where different versions are maintained side-by-side, each supporting a different WCF major version. Your proposed change would seriously harm setups where the order should be by newest version.

There is not that one solution that fits all and even having an option to toggle the sorting wouldn't solve this (at least it would cover some cases). We'll stick with the sorting by upload date as it is consistent across all our apps and makes the most sense - some edge cases excluded.

The newest version is always the higher number. In all case can to edit the version date is other option to sort the versions (without change the current sort method).

  • The newest version is always the higher number.

A file has two version trees: 1.0 and 2.0, these are developed in parallel and each have an own release cycle as well as version numbers. In this case, version 1.2.3 might be newer than 2.3.4, despite the version number being lower.

Just look at our products, we're currently actively maintaining the version tree 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0 of WCF/WSC at this time. Now imagine this as a single file, just as with the WordPress example in your screenshot.
