hot link stripper - paid development

  • So this concept is really simple. Often whens someone ends up hot linking a photo, they end up using the supplied shared code which leads a bunch or redirecting link off my site.

    [url=http://www.glitter-graphics.com][img]http://dl.glitter-graphics.net/pub/194/194671y6lyfkowjs.gif[/img][/url]

    I would like something that would automatically strip or remove those silly redirecting links so the end result would simply be this

    [img]http://dl.glitter-graphics.net/pub/194/194671y6lyfkowjs.gif[/img]

    Thus removing this part

    [url=http://www.glitter-graphics.com] [/url]

  • There should be no performance impact in changing bb code in single post. The photo itself would still be served remotely. So the size of the photo would be irrelevant because it would still be the same even if you kept the url code.

    EXAMPLE:

    With url

    [url=http://www.glitter-graphics.com][img]http://dl.glitter-graphics.net/pub/194/194671y6lyfkowjs.gif[/img][/url]

    Without url

    There is no difference in size, only one has click able link and the other does not. I would prefer it did not.

  • I think what @Sonnenspeer means is that you can't include a smaller image in the post and have the link point to a bigger version.

    Have you considered simply to remove the img bbcode from the list of allowed bbcodes inside url? You can configure that in the ACP. It would have the wanted effect and you don't even need a plugin for it.

    ^ This does not make sense to me. I'm sorry, I do not understand your logic. No offense, I just do not understand. This, works...

    The size of the image is irrelevant. The size of the image in any shape or form, works... Width, height, file size.. It works. Period. Replace the url with any photo you like of any size and it works. So this is why I do not understand what you are saying.

    Nothing I have said or requested has to do with anything about size. So I even further fail to understand how this has come into this discussion.

    How does this not work?

    Please explain. I see no such option that would do as you describe.

    If I turn off [url] then no one would be able to post links, but I still want that. If I turn off [img] then no one would be able to hot link photos and I still want that. What I do not want is them combined together.

  • I think he meant, ACP > Content > BBcode > list bbcodes > edit "url" > allowed children > none^img,b,i,u,s,sub,sup,color,size,font

    just remove "img". save.

  • That makes sense... Thank you. :)

    This was a good idea, but it doesn't work. It just converts it to a link. I want to keep the photo, but without the link. ;)

    Take this example:
    [url='example.com/big-picture-4000x4000'][img]example.com/thumbnail-200x200[/img][/url]
    Small version embedded in post, but linked to big version if you want to see it fully.

    Yes, disallowing the bbcodes means that it won't get parsed, it doesnt strip anything. IT's not a perfect solution, but you can use it in the meantime.

    I know of nowhere that anyone uses such a prefix in concerning basic photo sharing... My target audience uses glitter graphics or photo bucket, ect... And they simply end up copying and pasting the end user bb code. None of which use such a prefix.

    But assuming someone did... It would be acceptable to still remove the url.

    Thanks for your suggestion, but it isn't a solution that I would consider since it would be the exact polar opposite of my desired outcome.

    Hopefully, someone will develop this addon :)

  • Im not familiar with glitter, but many picture hoster do something like that Imageshack etc).

    It's also the way gallery image are embedded. Small version directly embedded, surrounded by link to full view.

    Would you be interested in developing this addon? The idea is to remove the url and only allow the hot link on its own.

    That is the desired affect I am seeking and I am willing to accept whatever disadvantages you believe it will cause, because my desired affect is not to have click able photos taking people away from the site while still allowing hot linking. ;)
